ABOUT...
The Edgefield County Clerk of Court’s Office oversees the 11th Judicial Circuit Courts for Edgefield County. These courts are separated into three separate divisions: General Sessions, Common Pleas, and Family Court. General Sessions comprises of criminal charges, usually on the felony level; Common Pleas processes civil matters which are outside of the Magistrate’s jurisdiction; and Family Court handles domestic (divorces, child support, child custody, etc.) and juvenile matters.

The Clerk of Court is also the Register of Deeds. The Register of Deeds office files and keeps records of all land transactions, such as deeds, plats, mortgages, Power of Attorney’s, and liens. The documents in this office go back as far as 1913 in paper form; any document recorded after 1996 is in a digital record form.

In July 2021, the Clerk of Court began managing the Edgefield County Archives. Archives manages documents from 1913 back to the 1700's. All documents in Archives are property of the County of Edgefield.

Elected Edgefield County Clerk of Court / Register of Deeds
Charles Reel began working at the Edgefield County Sheriff's Office in February of 1993. He held positions in Dispatch, Jail, Civil Process, School Resource Officer, DARE Instructor, Marijuana Analyst, Court Security, Warrant Coordinator, SWAT and Bloodhound Team.
In Feb. 2015, Charles Reel was appointed to the Office of Clerk of Court by South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, following the retirement of the previous Clerk of Court. Clerk Reel was elected in November 2016 and again in November 2020.

Charles has a Dual BS Degree in Elementary Education / Special Education, from Grand Canyon University. He is the former Vice-President and President of the South Carolina Association of Clerk of Courts & Registers of Deeds.

Charles Reel also travels the State of SC instructing other government offices/agencies in reference to "First Amendment Audits".
